This October will see another film release from the Saw franchise, directed by Michael and Peter Spierig. This movie is going by the unconfirmed title of ‘Saw Legacy’, but it’s not clear if this a continuation, a remake or even a reboot of the original story.
The more important question is: do we need another chapter in this movie? Surely the answer to this question is a resounding NO! The first film was a fresh, inventive new way to look at the genre, but by the seventh film in 2010, entitled ‘Saw 3D The Final Chapter’, the idea was tired, boring and washed-up. It definitely should have been the final chapter.
I, for one, really don’t want to see the same, tired storyline and dated traps being wheeled out for one last scare, although i should really have expected it to happen, having seen so many others doing the same, thing since the ’80s. This was most obvious of these was the ‘Friday the 13th’ franchise’s over-egging of their pudding by rolling out another eight movies after ‘The Final Chapter’… each one more ridiculous than the last.
I really hope that ‘Saw’ doesn’t follow suit.
