Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about what you do.
Hello everyone! Name is Flip Knox and I am a comic book creator (writer/artist/letterer). I am the co-creator (along with Izik Bell), of the comic book graphic novel series Chasing The Grave and the comic writer for Trans Planetarium.
- When did you first start writing? What led you to specifically writing comic books?
I first started doing this comic after being encouraged both by my close friend and my brother Izik, to use my art of story telling to vent out some of the struggles I had gone through, that I was facing and that I was learning to heal from through meditation. I really started focusing heavily on it, though, after meeting Greg Capullo. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a convention and he told me basically, (in a PG version) to focus on a project that pulls at my heart. So, I dusted off an old story that I’d kept on the shelf and let it be my soul’s cleansing tool, if you will.
- Give us a little known, unusual fact about you.
Wow… if you’re referring to something off-the-wall, unrelated to comics, then I love B rated movies. The more off-the-wall they are, the better. I like those who think outside the box.
- Can you tell us a bit about your latest project, Chasing the Grave?
Sure. Chasing The Grave is giving the back-story to Charon the boatman for the river of Styx. In Greek mythology, he is paid in coins by the living, to carry dead souls to either hell or paradise. We wanted to do this twisted love story that explained how he became the Charon and what would happen if he were given freedom to win back his long lost love and get revenge on the gods who cursed him. Think of it almost as a fantasy version of The Count of Monte Cristo. God, I love that book!
- Do you have any plans or special events coming up that you are able to tell us about?
Izik and me are planning to do at least two cons together this year and I am planning on going to the big comic con in my home town area this summer, San Diego Comic Con! Then a buddy of mine, Paul Gori of Oath Bound, drew an awesome alternate cover for Chasing The Grave and we’re going to give away the original art work of this to the fan who donates the most to our Autism Charity in April, since April is Autism month here in the United States.
- If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing instead?
I think I would write a novel or something like, I don’t know, marketing ads for people. Something related to art or writing in some sense, I think.
- Who is your favourite superhero or character and why?
Wonder Woman! I don’t know, I’ve just loved her since I was a kid!
- What is your guilty pleasure?
Dang… True journalism..! I really like watching cartoons with my daughter, cause in reality, I am still a big kid at heart.
- Who do you most admire and why?
I admire my pops mostly. The man took on a family that wasn’t really his and gave us a good life and brought us up right. My step dad will always be my real father, no matter what. Love and respect him deeply.
Thanks for having me and checking out our comic Chasing The Grave.
Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule, Flip! It was a pleasure.
